Press Release Regarding The Terrorist Attack In Pakistan , 10.06.2009
We have learnt with deep sorrow that a heinous terrorist attack yesterday (June 9, 2009) in the city of Peshawar in brotherly Pakistan claimed the lives of 11 people, including UN personnel and wounded 70 others. Turkey strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack that targeted the peace and stability of the brotherly people of Pakistan.
Turkey has always emphasized the need for international solidarity and cooperation at the global level in order to overcome terrorism, which is a crime against humanity.
Turkey shares the heartfelt grief of the friendly and brotherly Pakistani people caused by this attack. We reiterate, once again, our support to brotherly Pakistan in its struggle against terrorism and extremism and will resolutely continue our solidarity with the Government and the people of Pakistan.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is currently on an official visit to Pakistan, has conveyed his condolences to his Pakistani counterparts and as Turkey holds the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council, also visited and expressed his condolences to the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Mr. Fikret Akçura for the demise of UNHCR and UNICEF personnel during the heinous attack.
